Hamas has threatened to kill hostages if Israel launches a rescue operation to free them.
This threat follows reports that Israel is planning a rescue operation similar to one carried out in June in the Nuseirat camp, which resulted in hundreds of deaths.
On June 9, Israel conducted a rescue operation at the Nuseirat camp to free four hostages captured by Hamas in October 2023. The operation resulted in over 200 deaths, most of whom were Palestinian civilians, making it one of Israel's bloodiest military operations in this conflict and drawing strong criticism from the United Nations and human rights organizations.
In an internal statement dated November 22, Hamas instructed its operatives not to hesitate to kill hostages if Israel launches a rescue operation. Hamas claimed it had received information about Israel’s plans for such an operation and warned that Israel would be held responsible for the hostages' safety.
However, the statement did not specify when such an Israeli operation might take place.
