Beijing: Chinese President Xi Jinping told Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on Monday that the world's major powers should help Russia and Ukraine resume direct negotiations during his visit to the Chinese capital, calling this mission a "peace mission."
According to China Central Television (CCTV), President Xi stated that the international community should create conditions and provide support for both parties (Russia and Ukraine) to resume dialogue and direct negotiations. He told Prime Minister Orbán that only when all major powers exert positive influence, rather than negative influence, can a ceasefire in the conflict emerge more quickly.
CCTV further reported that President Xi emphasized the mutual benefits for all parties involved in ending the war and seeking a political solution as soon as possible. He also highlighted the current focus on adhering to three principles: halting active combat, stopping the spread of war, and preventing further escalation of the conflict by all parties involved, in order to stabilize the situation as much as possible.
After his discussions with the Chinese leadership, Prime Minister Orbán posted a message on the social media platform X, stating that China is a "key power in creating the conditions for peace" in the Russia-Ukraine war. He added, "This is the reason I have come to meet with President Xi here in Beijing." In addition to China, Orbán will continue his trip to the United States under the "Peace Mission 3.0."
Prime Minister Orbán's visit to China took place one day before NATO is set to hold a summit to mark its 75th anniversary, with key issues surrounding the Ukraine conflict expected to be discussed, including the outcome of Orbán's recent visits to Russia and Ukraine last week.
